About the surveys

The survey data provides a snapshot of the perceptions of Doctors in Training and Trainers about postgraduate training at one point in time.

The reports can be interpreted only as a screening tool - to flag up possible strengths and possible areas of concern. Further local investigation would always be required before any action is taken.

The data cannot be used to provide any meaningful league tables and should not be over interpreted (see for example Bird, S.M. et al (2005) Performance indicators: good, bad, and ugly - The report of a Working Party on Performance Monitoring in the Public Services J. R. Statist. Soc. A (2005) 168, Part 1, pp. 1-27).

The annual National Survey of Trainees and Trainers was conducted by PMETB with COPMeD until 1 April 2010 when GMC became responsible for the functions of PMETB.
